So far, so good...

It's been a minute since I posted my last (and first, for that matter) blog that I'm well overdue for an update...

So it's been almost a month that I've been funemployed (geez, where does the time go?!?!). I've actually got quite a lot done and have learned quite a lot about myself in such a little amount of time. Of course, for those of you who know me, I can't possibly go a month without working and NOT travel somewhere. That was the first thing I did once confirming that I would be fortunate enough to receive unemployment (thank goodness I'm not in California receiving IOU's from uncle sam....I wonder if I could send him one in April?...huh, now there's a thought) Anyway, I booked a trip out west to visit my sister in Portland, OR and boy, let me tell you - it's nice to get out of NYC for a week! Between the fresh air, polite drivers, cheap drinks and NO SALES TAX, one would wonder why I ventured back to NYC. My dad flew in from Hawaii for the weekend and we took a drive down to the Oregon coast for some 3-card poker (gotta love reservation casinos! although this one didn't allow drinking on the casino floor....odd, don't you think?), fresh crab and drunken sea lions (see pic below). good times! Here's a couple of pics from my trip:

Aside from traveling, I've also really gotten my creative juices flowing. I've come up with a name for my babycakes side business ("Sweetcheeks and Fireflies") - which you'll see in a post by itself, and have started marketing it pretty heavily. Got my first order last week (thanks tash!) and have a couple more in the pipeline! I also started designing jewelry (mostly because I stumbled upon a great jewelry supply store while ribbon shopping one day and decided that I'd give it a shot) - however, that's not working out as easy as I expected it to be so we may have to abort this mission soon....I've even helped a couple of previous clients with searches for great candidates with success, no less!

With everything going on, I've still made a conscience effort to really think about my future and which direction I want it to go in. I've read a couple of books on careers (best book I've read so far is called "I See Your Dream Job" by Sue Frederick. Fantastic book - I highly recommend reading it!), thought about my 5, 10, 15 year goals and so forth. I've decided that no matter what I do in the future, it has to involve some type of creativity, working with people, and the ability to allow me to utilize my neurotic organizational skills (any post-it note & color highlighter fans out there?!?!). Do jobs like this exist out there? If you have a job like this, drop me a comment and let me know what you do for a living!

Anyway, until next time, take care!

  1. I love that you have a blog. This is great. Can I be your test subject for the jewelry? :)
